Elementary Robotics was co-founded by Bill Gross, the brains behind an increasingly resurgent Idealab incubator, and Arye Barnehama, a former head of design at the augmented reality startup DAQRI. “Los Angeles is a great place for this, because we have a close relationship with Caltech and JPL,” according to Gross.

Tell me a bit about your background.

Internally, we look very similar to a tech company, in that we have a development team, go-to-market team, and product people, and the ultimate goal of what we want to accomplish is to create companies that can run independently, with their own management teams. How is this different than accelerator or incubator?

I then became and EIR at UC San Diego, and joined EvoNexus, the not-for-profit incubator run by the Irvine Company. There's a tightness which is squeezing the lifeblood from the entrepreneurs, even as it remains an amazing place. The first step, is to attract more entrepreneurs. Our focus in 2018 will be on the entrepreneurs.

Southern California has seen a surge in accelerators and incubators looking to spawn new startups in the region. Sandalbay Life is actually run by a serial entrepreneur with ties to Marks, Neil Malhotra. We're currently looking for seed level investment to fund the full development of the product for actual implementation.
