I’ve been having discussions with several people recently about the role of the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) in very early stage companies. In December 2007, I described how I commonly take on an Acting CTO Role in a Start-up. That’s why Roger Smith puts the focus of the CTO on programming for the earliest stage.

The company was incorporated in January of 2004, and we provide outsource e-commerce services to organizations, such as brands and retailers. We started getting approached by venture capital and private equity, and we have eight figures in revenue. We've never raised outside capital, but decided to do a late stage round from a VC firm.

The Internet doesn't work right, and is broken, and without a CDN, you can't do what you need to do if you're the CTO of a large website. Instead, they outsource to an expert like Edegcast. We happen to be very profitable company, but as we look to grow, also need to explore different sources of capital.
