Earlier this month, Los Angeles-based web hosting and cloud computing provider DreamHost (www.dreamhost.com) raised a big, $30M funding round for the company--the first in the company''s long history. Simon Anderson: DreamHost offers a web hosting, and now, cloud computing platform and storage.

Look for free help at a local university or find one of the new maker spaces, such as TechShop , where you can rent time and equipment to do the job yourself. Patent and Trademark Office site for a few hundred dollars. Use low-cost subscription software and cloud computing. Building the prototype can be fun.

Among those startups is San Diego-based Independa (www.independa.com) , which is trying to crack the code to figure out how to apply the convergence of wireless technology, cloud computing, and software to elderly care. If you're familiar with the design firm Ideo, they actually deferred their costs to help us launch our company.

There are job boards for resumes, and sites like LinkedIn to network and connect with each other, and they do have recommendations, but what they lack is the scoring element. Then, I can contact them through the site. That helped a lot. Right now, there is no dedicated place online that you can go to.

Facebook has Anthology, a service that connects business with media partners to help them produce quality videos to promote their brands online. Facebook already includes some report automation tools in their campaigns to help track metrics, but you may want to automate some of the publishing effort too with Hootsuite.com or Argyle Social.
