It isn’t the biggest secret that the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans and the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Bruins aren’t the best of friends, especially on the football field. On Sunday, March 2 nd at USC, these rivals took their battle to a new platform: startups.

Because the event was scheduled during Trojan Family Weekend, a weekend where parents and family from all over the nation come visit the USC campus, the event was filled with curious family members. This event was a competition, and judges began making their rounds around noon. We now have a solid proof of concept.”

Last week, Los Angeles-based Stroome (www.stroome.com), a new startup originally spawned out of a project at the USC Annenberg School of Communications, won $200,000 in the 2010 Knight News Challenge. Tom Grasty: Essentially, we started off as a graduate school project at USC. We grew out of an interesting use case.

For those who haven’t heard of what Startup Weekend is all about, it’s building a company on STEROIDS! Friday Night, people started trickling in at Coloft at 6pm. People were so excited for the weekend, many of who have participated in Startup Weekend before and a few like me, who were there for the first time.
