Periodically we do portfolio reviews to evaluate whether we have enough diversified risk across the fund. We look at stage, geography and of course sector. One such theme was “water conservation” and we morphed it into a broader theme of agriculture technology or “ag tech” for short. 6SensorLabs.

Lynda.com offers up online education courses on things like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, and much more. Lynda.com is unique in that it started out as a bootstrapped business operated out of the personal website (Lynda.com) of co-founder Lynda Weinman, in the not-so-technology hotbed town of Ojai.

So I’m drawn to UGC reviews. I started reading the comments of reviewers. And of course I know that some 25 year-olds are thinking that they’d rather stay in somewhere more hip, more alive at night & probably a bit cheaper. A few years ago I planned an outing to Santa Barbara for my Dad’s 70th birthday.

If you look at what you go through, starting high school, and maybe even middle or grade school, you go through your educational life managing courses, relationships with your teachers, and relationships with your parents. We've basically taken advantage of all the new technology out there--especially, the web-based service model.

So things that have to be done early get done early, but only at the last possible moment that the early task is due. I has been asked to do the keynote speech at a dinner that night but of course hadn’t written a speech in advance. Example: I was recently in China and had three public appearances.
