Using the social web to fill excess capacity that exists in nearly every business was one of the best uses of the web that I've seen. One company I've invested in is called 2tor (with substantial operations here in Los Angeles).

In Los Angeles we are at a disadvantage because the founder(s) often have no experience in building consumer web applications.
