The following post is a comprehensive summary of the developer-facing changes coming in Java 8. At the time of this writing, Java 8 development is still very much in progress. I'll do my best to keep this document up to date. It had the best support for the Java 8 language features at the time I went looking.

Netty , Vert.x , and Java servlets are fast, but we were surprised how much faster they are than Ruby , Django , and friends. Application performance can be directly mapped to hosting dollars, and for a start-up company in its infancy, hosting costs can be a pain point. Starting again with EC2. How we designed the tests.

The firm--which looks to be recruiting Java Developers, project managers, and UX/UI designers in its LA location--apparently lets employees take off as much time as they feel like they need, as one of the perks for working for the company.

Josh Hartwell: We officially incorporate in 2003, though we started laying groundwork for the company in 2002. We started back then, because my other co-founder and I had worked very closely with JAMDAT on JAMDAT Bowling and Fifa Soccer. Talk about how you went from JAMDAT to Mobile Deluxe? Can you talk about how you managed that?

As of this posting, they have signed up nearly 3 Million students to learn to code for at least one hour in December. Code.org has provided a learning portal for interested technical volunteers, classroom teachers and students to sign up. There are resources on the Code.org site for kids as young as 7.

A very interesting topic, especially for those of us involved in developing for start-ups. The basic conclusion was that it was a bit premature if you were talking about a serious, funded start-up. Must design your application differently to live on top of the platform. Server and client in Java.
