Amazon EC2 would be considered fully managed cloud, which also happens to be off premise. Enterprise are quite constrained from the resource point of view, and they really don''t have the cycles to understand OpenStack at a deep level. There''s more engineering talent in Southern California than most places in the world.

I was also surprised by the performance improvement on dedicated hardware as compared to EC2 instances of roughly 10x. Often we justify building an MVP in whatever framework is fastest to build or where we have resources that know that framework. Several of these are B2B applications with relatively smaller audiences.

Especially when there are things like: Amazon S3 / EC2 / AWS outage this morning. They also are VERY interesting for background processing tasks that take compute resources or from a storage cloud standpoint. Amazon EC2 - uses it for natural language processing. Would never put a user request to an EC2 instance.
