Anna Barber: Before this, I hadn't been involved with Techstars as a mentor, however, I'd been an entrepreneur and mentored at other accelerators. However, I always wanted to get into a broader role in the startup ecosystem, where I could help other entrepreneurs work on their ideas. That's both a challenge and an opportunity.

For example, we had a keynote from Patrick Soon-Shiong, who talked about his new health incubator, and Frank Addante, at Rubicon Project, talking his ad-tech services. We''re showing people that we have the cool media-entertainment stuff, which is cool and great, and we love that. There are a lot of women entrepreneurs and VC.

For those that may be unfamiliar with Idealab, it was founded in 1996 by entrepreneur Bill Gross, Idealab provides a broad range of operational support to its companies, allowing the company management teams to focus on getting to market quickly and cost effectively and to take advantage of the serial start-up experience of the Idealab team.

The idea, is to make it accessible as a multi-disciplinary part of Tel Aviv University, so that young people, alumni, and students with ideas for a company can join the fund, not only to be funded with seed money, but also so they can be accelerated and potentially incubated before they go out.
