The MIT event mentioned in my last post was held at the beautiful new Synergy Business Technology Center ( www.synergybtc.com ) in Santa Barbara. Michael Holliday, architect who conceived the incubator and designed the space has built one of the most inspired environments I have seen in a very long time. Count me in.

More than 150 MIT alums gathered Wednesday night for a discussion of incubators/accelerators. Appropriately enough, ÂÂÂwe gathered in the about-to-open Synergy Business and Technology Center, Santa Barbara’s latest incubator. Then drive for the best funding you can get.

A lot of the challenge is in human resources that understands that technology, however, we live in Southern California, which has some of the best universities in the country in that area. Our employees come from Caltech, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, and we've employed people as far away as the University of Michigan.

Mike will be using a desk at Make It Work to incubate his new company. As a board member of the Technology Council of Southern California (now an official sponsor of the event), I first reached out to my fellow board members. Gone are the days of 3.4 oz limitations and one quart clear plastic bags. YouTube and many others.

They were very small shcools--he went to Cate, which is inland from Ventura in the Santa Barbara area, and I went to The Thacher School, and we both ended up at the University of Southern California. Form there, we got interest from incubators, angel investors, and venture capital.
