We had an interesting presentation at the LA CTO Forum by the CTO of a startup who chose Groovy / Grails as the framework for their startup. t prompted a good discussion around how CTOs go about choosing the programming language and framework for their startup. They start with lots of other things.

We thought we'd talk with Chris about what Jetpack is up to. We offer up customers a high impact creative which is not bounded by the box. At Spin Media, we tried to do that ourselves, but that really sucked up product and development resources, who really should have been working on building the user experience, rather than ads.

As a software developer I wrote code on what was called a “dumb terminal” because it literally had no processing capability. Things got so bad on one project that we ended up doing split shifts with teams of people programming from 8pm-6am and the next team arriving at 8am. Sound familiar? It was wonderful.

As software developers, we're technophiles, so we enjoy these cycles and quite often find humor listening to the energy spent arguing on either side of issues. Sure we still get excited and animated about a new JavaScript library, a new CSS trick, a new device, or a new data store. It's a fun and funny business to be in.
