We were crowd sourcing artists and design. But, with the economy turning south in 2008, lots of those customers went out of business. In the meantime, Groupon came along, and our media customers started to lose advertising. We learned that Groupon was taking their advertisers. That's where Deal Current was born.

But we had a great chance to talk about the recent moves that Twitter has made to “plug holes” and changing its “TOS” on advertising. I don’t do advertising on my blog, but I thought it was worth mentioning Ryan in particular because he has an alternate model for doing a startup. Brought in new CEO, Russ Reeder in 2008.

Zac Brandenberg: Meteor Games is a game design studio, focused on casual social games. We're currently developing applications on Facebook. After about a year or year and a half into the business, we were really innovating the intellectual property, developing storylines and assets, and starting to go in a 3D direction.

The firm notably has Atari founder Nolan Bushnell as an advisor and serving as its chief game designer. So I actually started a graphic design company out of college, and got lucky with the web taking off at the right time. So Nolan is behind the design of the games? My other, non-marketable skill included philosophy.
