Aliso Viejo-based semiconductor maker Microsemi has acquired Cork, Ireland-based Mingoa , a developer of semiconductor IP focused on accelerated, real-time Ethernet. Mingoa was founded in 2009, and had been targeting such areas as enterprise carrier Ethernet, mobile/small cell backhaul, and data centers with its technology.

Peer-to-peer, voice-over-IP service Skype announced this morning that it will begin offering a free hour of Internet access, via third party wireless hotspots, in select airports across the U.S. The service is powered by Santa Monica-based Boingo Wireless , which inked a deal in 2009 to allow Skype users to its hotspots.

Los Angeles-based XCast Labs , a provider of voice-over-IP services, is reporting today that it had 48 percent revenue growth in 2009, and now has more than 100,000 users. The firm said it has been profitable since July, and saw growth from IP-PBX, SIP Trunk, residential, and reseller customers.

Skype , the provider of voice-over-IP services, is expanding its features which allow Skype users to easily connect to Wi-Fi hotspots, with a new iOS app. Skype and Boingo first launched Skype Access back in January of 2009, saying that Skype users would have access to Boingo Wireless hotspots worldwide.
