Eucalpytus, which is led by Marten Mickos, was venture backed by Institutional Venture Partners (IVP), Benchmark Capital, BV Capital, and New Enterprise Associates. The company had raised at least $55.5M Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed, however, reports place the buy at somewhere under $100M. in funding.

A new article this morning from ReadWriteWeb has identified Santa Barbara-based cloud computing software firm Eucalyptus has one of the open source software companies most likely to become the next, $1 billion company (in annual revenues). The article did not say what kind of revenues Eucalyptus actually is delivering, however.

The company said the biggest enhancement to the software are high availability features, which prevents single points of failure form crashing systems. Eucalpytus, which is headed by Marten Mickos, supplies its software to such companies as PUMA, USDA, Plinga, Aerospace Corporation, InterContinental Hotels Group, and Wetpaint, among others.

Santa Barbara-based Eucalyptus Systems , the cloud computing software developer headed by Marten Mickos , has raised $30M in a Series C round of funding, the firm announced this morning. IVP's Steve Harrick joins the company's board. Eucalpytus said it has now raised a total of $55.5M in capital.
