This time, Frank gives the Top 10 Ways to Win a Business Plan Competition. I'm a judge in a local university's business plan competition. Over the past few years I've been involved in different ways in the UC Irvine, Paul Merage School of Business, Business Plan Competition. They came in 2nd place. They came in 2nd place.

I have often thought that creative endeavors where one has a quick turn-around between idea and realization of one’s work as one of the more fulfilling experiences in life. There were startups and a software industry but barely. It was a way to make it hard for your competition to compete. There was no money train. It was 1991.

How do we need to structure the systems to get ahead and stay ahead of the competition? What existing systems will we leverage, what programming languages, software development methodologies, web application frameworks, revision control systems, etc.? I believe you will find lots of CTOs quite willing to help you as a mentor.

Though this was 2000 , and all startup & VC blogs we've grown to love didn't exist yet, I did have mentors available. Not that I blame you!

At the Technovation Challenge LA Pitch Night hosted by Iridescent , we saw six teams of high school girls from various Los Angeles City Schools pitch a number of mobile app ideas to a panel of venture capitalists and entrepreneurs. Seek out similar academic competitions and programs. Don’t take no for an answer. Find a hero.
