The new text messaging service comes directly from Edmunds.com''s acquisition of CarCodeSMS , a startup which had developed the texting tool as part of one of the company''s "hackathons" last year. Edmunds.com says it has found that at least one third of car shoppers now prefer communications via text message--rather than phone or email.
