A Fortune 500 CEO once told me that I was a Bank Robber. A Bank Robber is someone who craves the thrill of the chase. They love planning the heist and experiencing the adrenaline rush that goes along with taking down a bank. An ATM Operator sees life very differently. Initially, I was offended.

When hiring ATM Operators at a Big Dumb Company (BDC), assessing each candidate’s ability to execute predictable tasks is of paramount importance. I recently answered the question “ What are good ways to raise your children to be entrepreneurs? ” I believe that you cannot teach someone to be an entrepreneur, but that you can teach entrepreneurs. If your child is not an entrepreneurial Bank Robber , no worries; the world needs ATM Operators too.

They profess to be entrepreneurs, but are they actually Wantrepreneurs? A Wantrepreneur is a well-intentioned person who wants to be an entrepreneur, but does not have the skills, personality and or risk profile to be successful. They smile, they laugh on cue and they have a rehearsed response for every conventional interview question.
