Google had no clue that they were going to make so much money in sponsored search. They had signed up Gawker Media and the New York Post. They had signed up Glam Media and TMZ. We’ve proven that through innovation and experimentation we can do significantly more revenue than we’re getting through Google AdSense.

The old media companies were resistant to change. Early on GumGum began to experiment with overlaying rich media ads through Flash with photos until technology progressed and they moved over to Javascript. Buying Google keywords will be popular and expensive. Much bigger.

Social media will be pervasive in the enterprise and is primarily driving by customer interactions. A series of standards emerged known as “AJAX” (asynchronous javascript and xml) that gave the web-based designer much more control over the browser. And that’s what happened. The disadvantage is that you can’t install a lot of additional tools that use Javascript. I started with the hosted version and then migrated to an installed version so I could use Google Analytics and some other products. Much of my traffic is through referring websites and/or social media. You then need a URL.

The problem with most of the share badges out there is that they load a Javascript file from an external source which can take several seconds on a bad day. Javascript calls are an easy way for Facebook and StumbleUpon to put their links on your page but most networks also have a way to share through a URL.
