EvoNexus , the non-profit startup technology incubator operator which has locations in both Irvine and San Diego, said today that it has added Bob Genthert, the co-founder of ecoATM, as a Managing Director at EvoNexus in Irvine. Genthert was a co-foudner of ecoATM, which was sold to Outerwall in 2013 for $350M. READ MORE>>.

As opposed to a startup incubator, which typically deals with startups barely hatched, an accelerator focuses on a later stage startup, with an existing product and proven business model, looking for rapid growth. It suggests the minimum features to allow the product to be deployed and get feedback, and no more. Startup accelerator.

Our original name when we launched the firm was Digital Coast Partners, and we focused on being a consulting firm, investment bank, and incubator. In the early years at Montgomery, I was essentially the in-house M&A expert. When the tech bubble burst, we focused on technology M&A investment banking, which was my personal expertise.

I don’t believe you can hire great business people who outsource the development to a hot incubator who builds you code to match your ambitions. The Economist magazine did a study in the late 90’s on the ROI of an MBA (maybe somebody can help me surface it?). It’s either part of the DNA or it’s not.
