At io/LA we launched a new 8000 sq/ft co-work and incubator space in Hollywood. We chose Hollywood because we wanted to put top talent from the Entertainment and Technology industries under one roof. Aside from the theoretical stuff, 2012 has been a year of disruption in many areas of technology. Or Tapes and CDs?

The first-ever Silicon Beach Fest attracted more than 2,000 attendees from LA, San Francisco, San Diego, Santa Barbara, New York, Toronto, and London to celebrate LA startups and entertainment with panels, parties, pitch fests, hackathon, and beach games: volleyball, basketball and surfing lessons in Santa Monica and Venice on June 21-23, 2012.

Following a quick ice-breaker game of “Half-baked” where anyone in the room throws out a word to then generate an entertaining pitch, the real pitches began. Yes the real Oscars were also on this past Sunday but if you’re in LA or Hollywood, you wouldn’t be tuning into anything but Startup Weekend LA). Thanks again Tyler Crowley!
