I plan to write about it early next year when we’re all through. Sign up customers who are paying you money for a service you can’t 100% guarantee is going to be operational for the full period that they’re expecting. I didn’t want to disappoint my customers. And yes, I sleep better at night as a coach.

In addition, creating a business requires leading and interacting with other people, including partners, investors, and customers. Aspiring entrepreneurs are often impatient in rolling out the business, assuming the hard work was finalizing the idea, and that if you build it, customers will come.

You too can become an influencer through social media, videos and blogs, and people will follow you on what to buy, what causes to support, and who to vote for. I still see too many aspiring business leaders highlighting their technology, product features, and price, more than customer value and usability.

So part of playing an effective coach is helping the team to see the answer for themselves. My goal in the interview overall was to capture more of the personal side of Fred since so much of his investment thesis and portfolio work already comes out in his blog. Blogging is like Venus Fly Paper. This is classic Fred.

It is never as rewarding when you’re the coach (but coaching has many other benefits. Ask your customer why you lost. Write things down. It’s one of my favorite blog posts. I had planned to blog about it at the time but I waited 2 days and the whole world blogged about it so I didn’t pile on.
