Shame about not getting it in legal writing that you owned the original IP. But I’m sure he’ll never remember your company when Google buys you for $500 million and he’s still eating Ramen – right? I think you’ll end up with a newer lawyer who’s trying to build her book of businesses.

While Google and Facebook will buy “acquihires” (at least as of Dec 2011), many acquirers hate the idea of buying companies that aren’t profitable. If you spent the 3 years perfecting some hugely differentiated technology IP that may also be different. Your revenue is the $75 million you got paid in booking fees.
