Dave told us a bit more about the Viterbi Startup Garage and several other associated efforts there at USC centered around the startup ecosystem. The Startup Garage is an incubator which gives preference to USC teams, or startups that are USC affiliated in some way, for example, alumni-led. What is Viterbi Startup Garage?

We met and shared ideas and business cards, from the opening party at the Viceroy, to the packed panels starring Silicon Beach accelerators, VCs, startup CEOs, digital content creators, movie, music, games, and PR pros; hackathon, demo days, student pitch fests, parties and more. At the closing party, attendees kept saying "This is great!

One, is the discovery of awesome content, two is a place to store and publicize that awesome content, and three is being able to save your usernames and passwords to literally any site on the web, and automatically log you into those sites. Trakfire : a platform that enables its community to curate the best music from emerging artists, the third company founded founded by 19 year old USC Iovine Young Academy sophomore Arjun Mehta. Each mentor spoke for nearly an hour to the entire group, answered questions, and sat with each company for one-on-one mentoring.

Mike Tringe earned his BA in History and Science from Harvard, and his MFA in Film Production from USC. He’s worked as an English and Film teacher at the American School of Tangier, and has also assistant taught film production at USC. Sara Akhteh received her BA in Film Theory from UCSC and her MFA from USC in Production.

And while none has yet had the lasting power of the much bigger NorCal successes I imagine his next moves will continue to be closely watched by those in the know and the countless younger LA entrepreneurs who count Rosenblatt as a mentor may leave an even more lasting impact.
