I've had several Startup CTO Consulting sessions recently where it became apparent that the Founder needed help with the business and product as much or more than the technology. Do you have any suggestions for how to find a good mentor? These are not mutually exclusive and good mentors and advisors get into both.

I’ve been having discussions with several people recently about the role of the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) in very early stage companies. In December 2007, I described how I commonly take on an Acting CTO Role in a Start-up. That’s why Roger Smith puts the focus of the CTO on programming for the earliest stage.

One of Southern California's promising startup entrepreneurs, Jason G. Crilly had most recently been the CTO of RYSE UP, a startup in Los Angeles which calls itself the "American Idol for Mobile", which e co-founded with Nathan Chandra. Crilly passed away last weekend. READ MORE>>.

The The Stage Fund , a investment and acquisition firm focused on acquiring turnaround companies, has tapped a longtime Southern California entrepreneur, Dan Tamkin , as a new Managing Partner in Los Angeles. According to the fund, Tamkin will be setting up a West Coast office for the fund, which is based in Denver, Colorado.
