In 2005, Japan’s big drug firm Takeda acquired a company in North America for the first time. That company was Syrrx, a private San Diego-based biotech that used X-ray crystallography to help determine the structures of disease-related molecules so drugs could be designed to target them. More than 90 percent of them are researchers.

We're unique in that we are a design and build firm, we do both architecture as well as construction. We've got a range of services from architecture, landscape design, and interior design to the construction side as a general contractor. We think they are the most unique mobile homes every designed and manufactured.

The firm notably has Atari founder Nolan Bushnell as an advisor and serving as its chief game designer. We're the only site that is specialized in people over the age of 35 in that area. How did you end up starting the site? Elizabeth Amini: I actually ran into him in 2005, when he was a keynote speaker at a conference.

I first met Ethan in 2005. Ethan had pointed out to me that merchants were being barraged by “deal site” wanting to drive customers in the door but they didn’t have great tools to manage their customers. I think it’s a beautifully designed site and product. So there you have it.
