Sharp most recently led BP Ventures/Americas investment in Beyond Limits in 2017, leading the company's $25M Series B funding round and joining its board. Sharp had been at BP's venture arm for the last nine years; the company said Sharp helped BP's investment portfolio of over $600 million with investments into more than 50 companies.

Culver City-based molecular imaging products maker Sofie Biosciences said Tuesday that it has raised $5M in a Series A funding round. There are 9 innovation nodes in the US associated with I-Corp, and one of those nodes is out of the Viterbi School of Engineering, with UCLA and Caltech partners in that. A lot of people don't know it, but we also have an early growth fund, Redpoint Omega, which also gives us the flexibility to invest as little as $50,000 in a company, which we do quite often. After lots of success himself, he basically says that most of the success you have in your life has to do with the people you come across in your life, who help you out. LA's ecosystem was not like it was today, and it now has a rich history, lots of smart people who have exited, and who now run funds and get the ecosystem.

94 new startups have launched since January 2013 to June 2013 and the startup ecosystem has raised $500 million in funding in 2013 so far. LA brings forth a lot of talent from USC, UCLA, and Caltech. Los Angeles is 3 rd in the global startup ecosystem, behind Tel Aviv and Silicon Valley. Los Angeles has a diverse area of startups.

They not only have gotten bigger but they have an amazing track record of funding the biggest names in the sector: Cisco, Apple, Google, Facebook.
