The “span of control” for a growing tech startup is probably 6-9 people. You help them prioritize their objectives and review the results. You course correct. Marketing of course often feels the opposite. They review competitors offerings and analyst reports. Contrast that with years of decay at Yahoo!

The main thrust of the post is that with YouTube taking a 45% of revenue and talent taking 70% of the remaining revenue, YouTube Networks didn’t have sustainable businesses unless they invested heavily in technology as a tool to increase margin and provide defensibility. That is the definition of Disruptive Technology.
