In an unusual crime, truckload of accelerated video cards (GPUs) heading from San Francisco to Southern California was stolen, according to the manufacturer, EVGA. GPU cards are already in short supply due to both semiconductor shortages from the pandemic, as well as huge demand from the cryptocurrency mining market.

The company--like many other on-demand app developers--uses a network of independent auto detailers which it runs through a three day orientation and training session, and also a background check.

The number of Southern California related initial public offerings is growing steadily upwards, as Gevo --originally started in Pasadena, and based on technology out of Caltech and UCLA--hit the market this morning. Gevo is just the latest in a surge of companies hitting the public markets which have Southern California links.

The long list of Southern California high tech companies lined up for the public markets just got a little longer this morning, with the addition of Inphi Corp. The high level of IPO activity--if those firms manage to make it to market--would make this year one of the most active IPO years here since the dot com bust.

The filing of an IPO by Los Angeles-based Boingo Wireless on Friday seems to indicate the interest in public markets by venture-backed, Southern California firms has not abated. Firms which successfully reached the markets in the past year include Green Dot , RealD , Maxlinear , Inphi Corp. , and ReachLocal.

Santa Monica-based Demand Media has lost its Chief Revenue Officer, Jeff Dossett, to startup Porch.com , only eight months after Dossett was named to the position after the loss of former Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer Bradford. Porch''s founders are split between Seattle and Southern California. and Microsoft.
