I started with the hosted version and then migrated to an installed version so I could use Google Analytics and some other products. Much of my traffic is through referring websites and/or social media. That way people who want to get your blog by RSS and/or email can do so. Then you can install Google Analytics to your website.

Standalone URI shorteners work fine when you want to shorten mostly foreign URIs, but that’s a crappy approach when you want to submit your own stuff to social media.
