I was learning Ruby on Rails just ahead of the students and wrote the tools to help them manage the servers in EC2. Towards the end of 2006 I realized that EC2 was transformative and that people needed help understanding it as well as tools to work it. That led us to venture capital as opposed to trying to bootstrap ourselves.
