Report: Qualcomm Cuts 125 In San Diego

San Diego-based Qualcomm has laid of 125 employees in San Diego, part of a contingent of 269 employees laid off across the company in its data center processor business, according to a report this morning. According to the report, the layoffs come as Qualcomm has been winding down its data center unit, which now apparently only has around 50 employees--down from nearly 1,000 earlier this year.

Bruce Bigelow , the San Diego editor for Xconomy , has died, according to the publication, which has provided coverage of San Diego's biotech industry. Bigelow had been part of the San Diego Union-Tribune until 2008, when he left for Xconomy. Bigelow was 63. According to Xconomy, Bigelow checked into a hospital with difficulty breathing and other symptoms last weekend, and was put on life support early last week; Bigelow died on June 29th.
