I acted as the occasional mentor, advisor and coach to Ethan. Ethan had pointed out to me that merchants were being barraged by “deal site” wanting to drive customers in the door but they didn’t have great tools to manage their customers. I think it’s a beautifully designed site and product.

The city has, however, quietly been home to some of the most successful online companies to date, including CitySearch (sold to Ticketmaster for $260 million in 1998), Overture (acquired by Yahoo for $2 billion in 2003), eHarmony and LowerMyBills (bought by Experian for $330 million in 2005). Okay, thats AdSense. 10 years ago.

We began doing singles events, matchmaking, and date coaching. It was Citysearch for women to find guys. The site itself was originally meant for women, but we began noticing a large portion of our readership was male. , Val and I started this single’s website/blog just for fun and on the side.

We both had different types and interests in men and thought it would be great if there was a Citysearch for women based upon types. We started seeing a demand for what we were doing and from there began throwing singles parties, doing match making, and date coaching. We spent the time researching and gathering all the data we could.
