The Founder Institute (www.founderinstitute.com), an entrepreneurial training program that originally launched by Adeo Ressi in Silicon Valley, recently announced that it is setting up shop in Southern California, with branches both in San Diego and Los Angeles. Do entrepreneurs need to have a particular idea in mind to participate?

The firm is initially focusing on the Los Angeles market, and connecting people with fun, interesting classes, activities, and more in the local area. The company was founded by Bong Koh, a former EIR at Prism VentureWorks and venture capitalist at Advanced Technology Ventures; he also co-founded ibeatyou.

Marc Friedmann: SciVee serves the STM - Science, Technical, Medical - market. professors, who saw these changes coming, and the need to evolve and adapt that emerging technology into the scientific publishing area. They were looking for a technically knowledgeable person who had a strong business background.

I had worked as a tutor for Princeton Review, and Jake for Kaplan. We thought, we could put out a better product than Kaplan or Princeton Review, which would be more compelling, and also would tie in a strong social mission. Some of the biggest school districts, including LA Unified, San Diego, and Oakland all use our software.
