But VC is an “illiquid asset&# so funds didn’t disappear quickly - In 2000/01 the stock market quickly adjusted punishing investors in the NASDAQ and in individual public technology stocks. I suspect both were at play in Rustic Canyon Partners that went from a $500 million fund to around a $200 million fund.

I think one of the main reasons, is that LA has some unique challenges when it comes to a technology community. It's not like San Francisco, where everyone seems to be in a five mile square radius, and you can get out and walk to other technology companies. In San Francisco, it's technology people looking to find business people.
