Some other points - LAMP,Net, Java - doesn't make much difference. Amazon EC2 - uses it for natural language processing. Server and client in Java.

It was driven by the introduction of open-source software, most notably what was called the LAMP stack. They then launched processing capabilities (EC2) and we startups suddenly didn’t need to buy production servers. Open-Source Software & Horizontal Computing. Then they launched a simple database, management tools and so on.
