A very interesting topic, especially for those of us involved in developing for start-ups. Especially when there are things like: Amazon S3 / EC2 / AWS outage this morning. Level 1 & 2 Burden is still on the developers, you still have infrastructure. Some other points - LAMP,Net, Java - doesn't make much difference.

It was driven by the introduction of open-source software, most notably what was called the LAMP stack. They started by offering cloud storage (S3) on a super cheap, pay-as-you consume basis. Amazon allowed 22-year-old tech developers to launch companies without even raising capital. They came from a different perspective.
