It isn’t open in either its standards or in the way that applications are marketed and distributed. We had to develop whole frameworks of “middleware” to deal with this problem. It’s central standard was HTML (hyper text markup language) that described how we would show data on computer screens.

You define the data structures that your app requires, and then the layout and logic of its various screens. Journey allows for powerful logic through high-level JavaScript, which is a language that millions of people are already familiar with. Learning simple JavaScript in order to build apps on Journey is however quite feasible.
