Yes, there are some events around particular technologies. Most networking events tend to either focus on specific technologies (PHP,Net, C#, Microsoft, LAMP, MySQL, Open Source, Hadoop, Java, etc.) For example, an online retailer probably doesn't see themselves as a technology company.

Interesting term used in a ZD Net article - Platform as a Service (PaaS) Unfortunately, Peter sells the promise and ignores the reality. PIM based on Java that would be up-to-date on all your devices. Server and client in Java. Java as a platform wasn't ready to deliver on client side. I would tend to agree.
