Two of the hottest sectors in the market today for investments and startups are in the area of machine learning/big data and advancements in automotive technology. At the intersection of those two is Los Angeles-based Connected Travel (www.connectedtravel.com), the startup which is behind Honda's Drive Drive platform.

Another topic we debated early in the program was “lean startup” vs. “ fat startup ” where we both took the obvious hedge and said “it depends.” But truthfully both Dana and I are more aligned with the lean startup principles and believe you only go FAT when you’ve really proved out your product / market fit. Time will tell.

The firm has also received investments from Greycroft Partners and AT&T. I worked at Userplane, building social applications for sites like MySpace. To better understand the audiences using applications, we built out an analytics system a little over a year ago. Now, those hundreds of develops have turned into major companies.
