By the mid-nineties we had the World Wide Web, which gave us a standard way to publish web pages using HTML. Facebook had grown stratospherically from 2004-2007 to 100 million users and was everything that MySpace wasn’t. Twitter seems to have become a bit allergic to third-party developers (or maybe vice-versa).
