What I want to answer with this post (long though it may be) is: Why did Web 2.0 ask microsoft, aol/time warner & google]. We had email, instant messaging, group calendars, discussion boards, etc. They had a proprietary browser, their own search engine, their own content, chat rooms, email system, etc.
