I entered Pepcom’s Mobile Focus event with heightened excitement after driving through the busy intersections of Downtown San Diego’s rickshaw littered streets. Holding the (almost) Kindle sized media player in my hand made me wonder just how far off we are to having phones with 5″ screens be the standard.

A couple of weeks ago, twelve companies moved into the new downtown San Diego, EvoNexus incubator--which is run by CommNexus. Running that effort is Kevin Hell , the founder of DivX, who we caught up with to learn more about EvoNexus and how the group is trying to help grow technology startups in San Dieog.

In my LA I often see computer screens open with entrepreneurs talking about digital media. But one common theme I’m hearing from there in 2011 is that it’s impossible to recruit. In San Diego you have Qualcomm so an entire mobile industry has been spawned. I live in the city of Santa Monica.
