Many of the Valley tech firms saw advertising as “beneath them&# and many VCs in the first boom encouraged people to focus on eyeballs rather than dollars. I meet with Bay Area entrepreneurs all the time and am actively looking to make investments there. But you can build valuable Internet businesses outside of Silicon Valley.
