Los Angeles-based Rotohog , the online games developer headed by Kelly Perdew, has renamed itself FastPoint Games , according to the firm. According to Perdew, FastPoint has repositioned itself as a company focused on building live, data-driven, multi-platform games for clients to engage, reward and monetize their audience.

Santa Monica-based Image Metrics , a developer of facial animation technology, announced Thursday morning that it has acquired Big Stage , the developer of avatar creation software. Los Angeles-based RotoHog , the developer of online fantasy sports and entertainment games, said last night that it has launched four new partner games. All of the games are based on RotoHog's SCP platform. The company is backed by Allen & Co, Mission Ventures, DFJ Dragon and Sports Capital Partners Worldwide.

One of the big, open source successes in both Southern California and the software world was Gluecode Software , which was based in Los Angeles and acquired by IBM in 2005. Adam also had a stint at Mission Ventures, and ran worldwide sales for open source middleware at IBM. It's extremely widely used.
