We're now the biggest provider of mobile applications in college. Laurence Sotsky: The applications themselves do a number of different things. We're the official mobile app for whatever our customer is. Previous to this, I ran a custom, mobile application development shop. What do your apps do?

We have built an application services platform for vehicles, and our first customer was actually USAA. That's where we started to play with Honda, our next big customer, where we have built out these infotainment and commerce systems in a vehicle, with an ad platform on top of what we started as an incentive for safe driving.

I’m very pleased today to announce that I invested, on behalf of GRP Partners, in Burstly alongside Rincon Venture Partners , an early stage VC in Southern California whith whom we love to work (and were our co-investors on RingRevenue ). I guess it may be impractical for Twitter to acquire Seesmic given it has raised considerable amounts of venture capital (reportedly $12 million) but the broader point for me is that I always believed Twitter should control the client versions of its product. Think about the creative tension.

It required content sites to develop totally new content. I’m now a VC. Everybody and their mothers are coming into my offices proclaiming that their developing the latest iPhone App. Their company, my company and countless others espoused cloud-based applications. It’s a way to reach your customers.

Prior to co-founding EdgeCast, he was a co-founder, chairman and CEO of KnowledgeBase, a hosted enterprise knowledge management company with many Fortune 1000 customers. At KnowledgeBase, he worked with EdgeCast co-founders James, Phil and Lior, and as CEO was involved in all aspects of the company and responsible for its development.
