He eventually founded and sold consumer health firm ViSalus to a public company and is now back making investments, in technology companies, as a venture capitalist here at Los Angeles-based HashtagOne (www.hashtagone.com). I'm a bit of an anti-VC, as you know. It was really the same business, but with less capital.

Many startups now go through accelerators and have mentors passing through each day with advice – usually it’s conflicting. On teams I have a framework for tech teams “ CTO vs. VP Eng ” or on sales I have “ Journeymen, Mavericks & Superstars ” 5. What is a founder to do?

Our founder, Yves Sisteron, was my mentor and board member at my first startup. Stuart is well worth following on Twitter & now that’s he’s a VC he is likely to share his wisdom more freely. We brought Ryan Lissack down from San Francisco to become Maker’s CTO and the rest is history.
