There were startups and a software industry but barely. And then in the late 90’s money crept in, swept in to town by public markets, instant wealth and an absurd sky-rocketing of valuations based on no reasonable metrics. Starting in 2009 I began writing checks consistently, year-in and year-out. There was no money train.

I write this post as a warning to pick your VC’s carefully. There are people like Gus Tai who any entrepreneur who’s worked with him well tell you is that he has helped coach them into building a great business. I personally ruled out Pakistan due to the perception that our staff would feel less safe there.
