We had an interesting presentation at the LA CTO Forum by the CTO of a startup who chose Groovy / Grails as the framework for their startup. t prompted a good discussion around how CTOs go about choosing the programming language and framework for their startup. Of course, I'm not sure that anyone chooses Java alone.

A very interesting topic, especially for those of us involved in developing for start-ups. The basic conclusion was that it was a bit premature if you were talking about a serious, funded start-up. Start-up on top of pen computing - Go Corp - pen point. Server and client in Java. Visual Basic add-ons.

Netty , Vert.x , and Java servlets are fast, but we were surprised how much faster they are than Ruby , Django , and friends. Application performance can be directly mapped to hosting dollars, and for a start-up company in its infancy, hosting costs can be a pain point. Starting again with EC2. JSON serialization test.
