You and I were talking about a startup recently and where they might go for seed stage funding, what is your impression on that aspect here in Los Angeles? We are not “finders” and usually serve the role of advisor and attorney. Are you doing much of that? Los Angeles is a great place for startups. and online business networking ?

As I’ve written about recently, at Upfront Ventures we started talking a couple of years ago about wanting to fund stuff with more meaning. I think this is a combination of being realists as venture capitalists that outsized returns in our funds must come from taking on bigger, more impactful projects that can move markets.

Barry and I worked together to create Beatshare as a business and go out for funding. That funding was geared towards development of our product.

I am looking for one or two startups that I can work with on their road to success as a virtual C-level officer, board member, advisor or other relationship.

Goodreads raised a Series A round of funding from True Ventures in the summer of 2009. Matt Miller – Co-Founder and CTO of CareerBliss.com. He is also an angel investor, board member and advisor to both early-stage consumer internet and new media companies as well as companies in the national security and defense sectors.
