I’m a pretty natural public speaker so I can write my presentation the day before and do just fine. Yet in LA we have hugely successful entrepreneurs who have built big companies like Overture, CitySearch, MySpace, TicketMaster.com, LowerMyBills, Commission Junction, eHarmony and on and on. I hear it all the time.

When he had the idea for his company, he didn’t write a long business plan or try to raise money to hire an agency to build a website for him. If there were more great companies coming out of LA then it would create more demand for high quality VC firms. It’s a chicken and egg problem.

As I write these words I’m aware that I could practically change the words AOL and Facebook for much of this section and with a few factual tweaks it might not be noticeable to the reader which of the firms I was talking about. I’m going to write a whole post on BothSid.es They controlled distribution to the masses.
